Dutch Bikes Arrive in Ptown

Field Guide, a new outdoor clothes shop in town this season, is now selling Gazelle bikes. There are a couple Tour Populaires on display outside the shop today, just in time for the last few hours of the Massachusetts sales tax holiday weekend (save 6.25%!).

They are tagged with a retail price of $1,299 and there is one of each step thru and step-over models.

As I’ve written before, these are hardy bikes that have built-in hub generator lights, full chain guards, fenders, mud guards, a coat guard, a rear rack, built-in wheel frame lock, and a mighty kickstand.

Adding these accessories to a run of the mill bike easily brings the price up to the what these are going for.

The only things I’m not a fan of are the olde-timey detail painting (which is just part of the retro styling) and the leather saddle and hand grips.

Lovely bikes. I hope to see some folks cruising around on them soon!

They even have nice chromed ding-dong bells!

Update: Field Guide has lowered the price on these bikes to $1,299 from the $1,499 I first reported, and they have more of them available!
